On May 17, the LAS Zugdidi Bureau lawyers and the representatives of the non-governmental organization “Legal Protection Institute” held joint meetings for IDPs from Abkhazia currently residing in Khobi.
The lawyers visited several centers of IDPs collective settlement, in particular, the former technical school, the former isolation hospital and sport complex building, as well as boarding school.
In the framework of the meeting, the representatives of two organizations talked about legal services they offer to IDPs. Besides, some IDPs received consultation on the issues such as: social allowance and programs for IDPs; issues related to legalization of land and property; inheritance; domestic violence issues; court of jury, etc.
The non-governmental organization “Legal Protection Institute” works on the IDPs issues and is a member of the LAG Consortium. The activity was planned together with the LAS Zugdidi Bureau in the framework of the memorandum of cooperation which was signed between the Consortium and Legal Aid Service this year.
The aim of the on-site visits is to raise legal awareness of the population about human rights, to increase accessibility to justice, to inform citizens about new legislative amendments, to render legal consultation and legal assistance to citizens.
