Parliament Continues to Examine 2015 Activity Report of Legal Aid Service

The Parliament of Georgia continues to examine 2015 Activity Report of Legal Aid Service. Today, Legal Issues Committee heard the report after Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee did the same.

The director of the Service, Meliton Benidze, introduced to the MPs legislative amendments made last years in legal aid field. He made focus on those legislative changes as a result of which the scale of free legal aid expanded and covered issues of family law, inheritance law and social protection, as well as cases of protection of persons with psycho-social needs and victims of domestic violence. The chairperson of Legal Aid Council, Ekaterine Popkhadze also attended the committee meeting.

The examination of the report will be continued at plenary meeting of the Parliament after what the legislative body will adopt the relevant resolution regarding performance evaluation of Legal Aid Service.

Legal Aid Service is an independent organization and is accountable only before the Parliament of Georgia. The legislative body annually examines the activity report of the Service during its Spring session.
