On April 21, the leadership and staff of the Legal Aid Service (LAS), the Director of the LAS Davit Simonia, Deputy Directors Nino Meladze and Ketevan Muradashvili met with the United States Ambassador to Georgia Kelly C. Degnan at the Batumi Legal Aid Bureau.
The first Deputy Director, Nino Meladze, gave the guest a special presentation including a report on the Legal Aid Service projects implemented with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The discussion touched on certain outcomes achieved through the aforementioned initiatives. Iamze Zandaradze, head of the Batumi Legal Aid Bureau, gave the visitors an overview of the current situation on access to justice in the region, provided statistics on the cases the Bureau generated, and on the beneficiaries enjoying free legal aid.
Ambassador Degnan noted that the Legal Aid Service performs far more efficiently under the assistance from the United States. Therefore, the US will continue to support Legal Aid Service and institutional strengthening, both of which are essential for helping free legal aid beneficiaries.
