Meetings with students taking part in the "Paralegal" project were held in the city of Batumi on November 18 and 19. We would remind you that the "Paralegal" project allows non-lawyers to provide primary legal consultation to the general public after completing the planned training program developed by the Legal Aid Service. This is particularly crucial for increasing societal legal awareness and ensuring that everyone has effective access to justice.
Mari Meskhi, a professor and doctor of Law, and Lia Putkaradze, the founder and executive director of "Saorsa," presided over the meeting on November 18. The institutions in Georgia that offer protection to victims of domestic violence and human trafficking were described to the paralegals by the speakers who also discussed the protection of women's rights in Georgia.
A training against human trafficking was held on November 19. The following topics were covered as part of the training: the concept of trafficking; international instruments for regulating human trade (trafficking); an overview of national legislation; Regulation of trafficking in minors by international and national legislation; and the distinction between human trafficking and illegal immigration. The paralegals held an engaging conversation on the subject at the conclusion of the training.
The Legal Aid Office is grateful to the USAID Rule of Law Program for project funding and significant support.
