On May 17, a mock trial was held at the Zugdidi District Court where "jurors" considered a premeditated murder case.
The Legal Aid Service staff, the Administration and the Zugdidi Legal Aid Bureaur employees represented the prosecution and the defense side, while the "jury" was composed of the
Zugdidi population, who had been pre-registered for participating in the process.
The "jury" from Zugdidi listened carefully to both sides, asked questions, discussed the evidence presented by the prosecution, considered the positions of the defense, and issued the relevant verdict.
It should be noted that the mock trial of jurors, in which the jury was made up by the local population, aims to raise the legal awareness of the locals and to potentially prepare the citizens for real participation in the jury trials.
he
event was organized as part of the Legal Aid Service legal awareness campaign – the "Make the Law Accessible to All" movement. The campaign in the Samegrelo region is being supported by the Council of Europe (COE).
