On 31 January 2023, an event was held by the Chairperson of the UNODC Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Commission “Chair’s Event to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Adoption of the UN Principles and Guidelines on Access to Legal Aid in Criminal Justice Systems”.
David Simonia, Deputy Director of the Legal Aid Service, delivered a speech at the event. He discussed the developments and innovative reforms of the Legal Aid Service. In terms of reforms, quality improvement, introduction of artificial intelligence, increases number of cases received, introduction of the lawyer mentoring system and other improvements were mentioned.
Among the countries participating in the event, the reforms of the Legal Aid Service of Georgia received the special approval.
