On November 5-8, in Borjomi, the second training on “Protection of Victims of Violence against Women and Domestic Violence” for the lawyers of the LAS bureaus located in West Georgia and the registry lawyers. The purpose of the meeting is to raise legal awareness and get introduced with psychological aspects, as well as specialization of lawyers.
LEPL Legal Aid Service developed the concept which aims at granting the lawyers specialization on “Victims of Violence against Women and/or Domestic Violence” in order to provide the victims with effective legal assistance. The concept also envisages several stages of granting the specialization:
1. Selecting the candidates for specialization on the basis of motivation letters;
2. Undergoing the course of professional training according to the approved module;
3. Writing test after completing the second stage.
After passing all three stages with success, each lawyer is granted specialization which implies giving priority to the already specialized lawyers while distributing the cases of such category.
The training is a part of the cooperation between Legal Aid Service and UN Women, with support of the European Union.
It is worth to mention that after the legislative amendments made in February 2018, Legal Aid Service protects victims of violence against women and domestic violence despite their insolvency. After granting the specialization, the quality of free legal aid provided by the LAS bureaus and consultation centers will be better.
