On October 31, the "Paralegals" project, supported by the USAID Rule of Law Program, was introduced to the Mestia community by David Simonia, Director of the Legal Aid Service (LAS), in the Mestia Municipality Council Hall.
D.Simonia gave the audience a brief overview of the LAS services and legal obligations, including raising the public legal awareness, and the “Parlegals” initiative as its part, launched in the Ajara region.
Batumi Shota Rustveli State University students make up the majority of Batumi's "paralegals". The Rule of Law Program of USAID provided support for their retraining and their first trip beyond the Adjara region. Paralegals addressed questions from the Mestia community after delivering the presentations on legal matters pertaining to labor, inheritance, and the rights of the disabled.
