November 9, the Legal Aid Service Batumi Bureau was visited by Ambassador of the United States to Georgia Her Excellency Kelly C. Degnan, USAID Caucasus Democracy and Governance Rule of Law Project Director Leah Kaplan, the Manager of the same project Rusudan Tabatadze and the representatives of the non-governmental sector.
Nino Meladze, First Deputy Director of LEPL Legal Aid Service made a presentation to the honored guests. The presentation included projects supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in the Legal Aid Service. Sulkhan Gvelesiani, Deputy Director of the LEPL Legal Aid Service, and Davit Simonia, Head of the Analytical Service spoke about the tangible results achieved through these projects.
Iamze Zandaradze, Head of the Batumi Legal Aid Bureau, briefly introduced the current situation in the region in terms of access to justice. She also provided statistics on the cases conducted by the Bureau and the beneficiaries receiving free legal aid.
Ambassador Kelly Degnan emphasized the importance of the active participation of the Legal Aid Service and the non-governmental sector in the justice system. Her Excellency pointed out that the United States continues to make a significant contribution to strengthening the free legal aid system in Georgia and supporting further projects.
