The Training on "Prohibtion of Torture" is going on for the Legal Aid Service attorneys, consultants, and staff. On July 12-13 the training organized by UN OHCHR Human Rights Office was led by Besarion Bokhashvili, the UN OHCHR Human Rights Officer and Giorgi Chkheidze, the expert.
Over the course of the training, the participants discussed international standards governing the prohibition of torture, inhuman and degrading treatment or punishment, review of important decisions of the European Court of Human Rights and UN oversight bodies, the positive obligations of the state regarding torture and ill-treatment, protection, prevention, effective investigation, prohibition of ill-treatment in penitentiary institutions, the importance of legal aid and early legal aid for victims of torture.
The meeting was held within the framework of the joint program of the European Union (EU) and the United Nations (UN) "Human Rights for All - Phase Two". The aim of the initiative is to protect the rights of all citizens and the social groups living in Georgia in accordance with the country's constitution, legislation and international obligations.
