With the initiative of the UNDP Tbilisi Office, in December of the past year, the delegation of Turkmenistan with the UNDP Turkmenistan representative Elena Butova in lead visited Legal Aid Service. The members of the delegation were employees of the Ministry of Justice and Supreme Court of Turkmenistan. The head of Legal Aid Service, Meliton Benidze showed to the guests the presentation with the detailed history of establishing Legal Aid Service, the structure of the Service, mechanism of its work, mandate, statistical and financial data.
The delegation of Turkmenistan asked many questions and stated that Turkmenistan has just started to set up such system, so they are actively getting introduced with already existing legal aid models in the world. They underlined that the Georgian model of provision of free legal aid is one of the most effective and result-oriented examples in the world and they will share an experience of the Georgian colleagues.
