The LAS Tbilisi Bureau attorney, Merab Mamuladze, defended a citizen of Turkey, Shefik S. who faced a life imprisonment for purchase of narcotics in a big amount and transporting them from Georgia.
According to the investigation, the citizens of Turkey transported liquid narcotics brought in Iran, under the hygienic items, via Georgia to Moldova.
Shefik S. did not confess to committing the crime. The accused asserted that he did not have anything to do with the narcotics and he just fulfilled the request of his friend regarding preparation of documents of the transporting goods.
At the trial examination stage, in the concluding speech, the lawyer, Merab Mamuladze, raised doubt about the accuracy of the investigation. There was not any evidence which proved the link of Shefik S. with the narcotics. Accordingly, the public attorney demanded acquittal for his defendant.
Finally, Tbilisi City Court shared position of the public attorney, found Shefic S. not guilty and after an 8-month of custody, released him from the court room.
