Research was conducted on the issue of the legal aid mandate

In what areas should the State funded legal aid mandate be extended? This has been the subject of the research, the results of which have been introduced to members of the Legal Aid Board and representatives of LAS administration today. The research was conducted by CRRC Georgia with the financial support of USAID PROLoG.

Lawyers, representatives of non-governmental organizations, as well as judges were interviewed in the course of the research. Based on the interviews and the analysis of the statistical data, CRRC identified problematic areas of civil and administrative law, where the need for free legal assistance is mostly visible.

Among problematic issues were identified: immovable property rights, dismissal from job and reinstatement, natural disaster victims’ rights on compensation, loan disputes, rights of PWDs and victims of discrimination.

Currently, free legal assistance on cases belonging to family law, inheritance law, social legislation is envisaged by interim legal operating before January 1, 2018. Based on CRRC research, a plan shall be elaborated, defining the extension of the LAS mandate for the period starting from 2018.
