One June 8, the lawyers of Shida Kartli Bureau of Legal Aid Service held information meetings on the issue of women’s rights with IDPs living in the villages of Akhalsopeli and Mokhisi of Kareli Municipality. The meetings were organized with the assistance of the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons of Georgia.
In the course of the meeting, the local population was informed about the legal mechanisms for the protection of the rights of victims of domestic violence and women’s rights. In discussing the women’s rights, focus was made on the issues such as: right to property, family relations, early marriage, right to labor, forms of domestic violence, gender based discrimination, etc.
The LAS regional bureaus periodically carry out similar activities in order to raise legal awareness of the population.
