Otar Chakhunashvili, Director of the Legal Aid Service (LAS) held an introductory meeting with Anna Rich, the new Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to Georgia. At the meeting, the parties discussed the legal status of refugees, humanitarian status holders, and asylum seekers living in Georgia, the existing challenges regarding the protection of their rights, and the activities of the Legal Aid Service in terms of providing free legal assistance to these groups.
The conversation also touched upon the current and future directions of cooperation between the two organizations. It was noted that partnership relations will deepen further, which will contribute to strengthening the protection mechanisms for the rights of refugees, humanitarian status holders, and asylum seekers, developing the professional capacities of public defenders, and further improving the quality of legal aid
