June 12 is the International Day Against Child Labor. According to the United Nations Children's Fund, over 200 million children between the ages of 11 and 18 are involved in labor globally, with 115 million of them working in hazardous conditions.
The "Child Rights’ Protection" Code has been in effect in Georgia since 2020, in the implementation of which the LEPL Legal Aid Service (LAS) plays a key role.
In this regard, the Rustavi Mediatheque hosted a public lecture and debate on the legal and practical aspects of child labour, led by attorneys Mariam Gelashvili, Tamar Gamezardashvili, and David Jikia of the Rustavi Legal Aid Bureau.
The lawyers introduced the LAS legislative mandate, which includes safeguarding children's interests in all administrative bodies and other relevant settings and situations, and informed the assembled public about Georgia's current child rights’ laws. They also talked about juvenile justice issues..
